Managerless Town fell to their record FA Cup defeat as they were thrashed 7-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. After an evenly balanced first half hour the holders and Premier League champions went on the rampage with the goals coming from Salomon Kalou, Daniel Sturridge (2), Carlos Edwards (OG), Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard (2).

Town’s U18s crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the third round stage as Peterborough United ran out 3-2 winners at a freezing cold Portman Road. The young Blues were two behind before Cormac Burke (pictured) pulled a goal back but conceded again before schoolboy Jack Marriott added a second five minutes from the end.

On-loan Celtic defender Darren O’Dea is also a doubt for the visit to the KC Stadium after picking up a minor hamstring injury while away with Ireland earlier in the week.

Debutant Ronan Murray scored once and played a role in two David Norris goals as the Blues beat Exeter City 3-2 after extra-time in the first round of the Carling Cup at St James’ Park. Town looked set to win 2-1 in normal time until Ryan Harley lashed in a superb equaliser, his second goal of the game, but Norris netted the winner in the first half of the additional 30 minutes.

New academy recruit Elliot Scotcher has been named in the Wales U17 squad for a friendly tournament in Sweden later this month. Scotcher, who was formerly with Cardiff City, starts his two-year scholarship with the Blues later this month.
